Perfectly imperfect were the words uttered by Kate Evans of Exult Design about her recent renovation of a clients bathroom in Byron Bay.

“I wanted to use elements that would age and look worn over time. Always telling a new story. Finishes that are really tactile and would draw the eye as well.”

“We just love the tiles and tap wear. The taps are ageing copper and already they are starting to obtain a really lovely patina. The tiles are all different so as your eye roams over you always see something different.”

The bathroom was created using dead space within the house – an existing breezeway next to the bedroom. Working with the architecture of the home, the layout of the room focused around the windows and outlying landscape.

“I love the way the room overlooks the garden. It feels really calm. When our client engaged us a key point was to do the surrounding garden justice. It’s spectacularly beautiful and gave us some tough shoes to fill.”
