Nestled amongst the thriving and renowned hipster bar and restaurant scene, you’ll find Lello Pasta Bar. Located in Melbourne’s’ Flinders Lane, Lello’s focus is on honest, seasonal food and regional pasta dishes. All made from scratch with love in the authentic Italian way.
Designer Sarah Elshaug of Maitland Street Interiors was given a brief to deliver an interior that reflected the comfort and tradition of artisan pasta. While creating areas that made diners feel as though they are in an extended elegant living space with their loved ones.
Underpinning the whole project was the need to be budget savvy. And as explained by Sarah. “We needed to focus on areas that would make an impact versus areas where we could create cost savings. Works included custom bar stools, a fresh coat of paint throughout and the reupholstering of the banquet seating”. The styling was also a key contributor to the fitouts success. Above the generous main bar, cascading devil’s ivy provides another highlight of greenery, tying back to custom-made green stools.
“Our most loved design features start with the impressive artworks which set the mood throughout.” Said Sarah. “Along with the considered colour palette, bespoke elements were incorporated into the space. Details such as the herringbone feature tile, custom bar stools, and finally the impressive circular living garden wall.”
“It’s no secret that I’ve been a long time admirer of Katie Carmichaels work. After discovering her photographs from Italy, we collaborated together to find the perfect images for the space. In addition we also added artisanal portraits of Leo and his team. They show them creating the hand-made pasta that Lello is renowned for. The resulting cohesiveness and impact created still captures my attention whenever I visit.”
