Mitcham house by Green Room Interiors brought elements of Vietnam to Melbourne.
Inspired by original painting from Vietnam and various inspirational images found online, this project brought the vibrant lanscape of the orient and applied it in a subdued, yet colourful manner.
After assisting the client with the selection of materials and finishes for the kitchen and bathroom renovation. The project then progressed to bring the house to life with a contemporary and homely fitout.
“Many of the furnishings were selected based on colours we pulled from the Vietnamese paintings”.
Both artworks display bursts of mustard yellow, an element incorporated into the formal lounge. Grounding the space, an oriental flat weave rug, adorned with layers of colour and texture set the tone for the space.
Circular shapes, inspired by traditional Vietnamese hats can be seen repeated throughout the house, including the coffee table and industrial bookshelf. This theme then continues into the sitting nook via the decorative side table and styling.
To accommodate the family of four, a large modular sofa was installed in the main living space. The rug in this room, features a similar triangular design in a larger format, tying the spaces together.
When asked about the space, Tania says. “I love how I incorporated colour and textures in this mainly white, bright space. It made it feel more homely and gave it some personality”.
