Drawn to the inner city, yet coastal suburb of Port Melbourne for the city and surf lifestyle, owners Ash and Monica embarked on transforming their Bank Home into a luxurious family home. The transformation began with a two storey extension, with designer Mel Sherwell of Soul Shapes brought on board to develop the furniture plans and finishing touches.
Moonstone by Michael Bond sits as the main focal point of the home and sets the tone. Modern, light-hearted Luxe.
“The Michael Bond Art plays a huge part in the success of the combined dining /living space.” Says Mel. “It was super exciting securing that piece for Monica. We had been stalking Fenton and Fenton every day, waiting for one of his pieces to release. As soon as I received a notification, I called her and we snapped it up in ten minutes.”
Hanging over the custom made dining table is the Matheny Suspension Light. Finished in rose gold, which pulls from the kitchen hardware, the pendant successfully creates an inviting umbrella of warmth in the hub of the home.
The lounge room is grounded with a beautiful geometric rug selected to harmonise the colour palette, as well as soften the darker tones. “I love how it softens the bolder darker statement pieces like the art, dining table and dining chairs. I think this piece really was one of the best design decisions I got over the line. It really is the hero in pulling everything together, whilst also cleverly receding into the Royal Oak Flooring.”
Custom made drum light shades hang in the master bedroom, complimenting the moody velvet linen. Designer Mel Sherwell, worked closely with the manufacturer. Planning all the details all the way down to the pleated blush lining.
