South End Social, as explained by Stewart + Highfield is a fresh modern space that catered for office workers in the surrounding buildings as well as being a weekend bar.
Inspired by coastal tones in an urban setting, the design team referenced modern Mediterranean style with arches, stucco surfaces, terrazzo flooring.
“We love the mix of materials. The front face of the bar is Jason Grant New Paradise tiles from Di Lorenzo which meet Abstrakt terrazzo flooring from Fibonacci Stone. The blue of the bar front is offset by Warwicks Fabric Lustrell Seafoam booths”
Working with what can only be explained as the tightest of deadlines. Three months. Xanthe Highfield explained that the time between hiring and the opening date also fell over Chinese New Year. Adding an extra element of stress to the project. But, they pulled it out.
When asked of their favourite aspects of the project. Xanthe said. “We love how the arches curve over the ceiling and continue to snake along the floor around the bars. There is a constant flow of lines in the space.”
South End Social was shortlisted in the IDEA Awards for best hospitality design 2019.
